Manage Your Subscription Payments With Virtual Cards

DashPass is a monthly subscription offered by the food delivery service DoorDash. While using DoorDash does not require a paid subscription, DashPass provides benefits such as restaurant discounts and waived delivery or service fees.

Although one of the most well-known companies in the industry, DoorDash faces competition from other providers like Uber Eats or Grubhub, so users may consider switching to another provider. They may also determine that they do not order enough to justify the DashPass subscription service.

Regardless of the reasoning, if you think DashPass’s cost outweighs its benefits and would like to cancel the service, you’re in the right place. This guide will show you how to cancel DashPass step-by-step and share some tips for preventing unjustified subscription charges from the company.

How To Cancel a DashPass Subscription

You should cancel your DashPass at least 24 hours before the next billing cycle to avoid paying for another month of services. Upon canceling, you’ll still have access to DashPass until the end of the billing period. Note that the same won’t be true when you cancel a DashPass trial as you will lose your benefits immediately in that case.

The steps below present how to cancel DashPass on the app or the website:

  1. Launch the DoorDash app or go to the official website.
  2. Click on your profile icon.
  3. Select Manage DashPass.
  4. Select Cancel Membership.
  5. Pick one of the cancellation reasons and click on Select Reason.
  6. Click on Cancel DashPass.

If you’ve completed the process successfully, you should receive an email confirming that your membership is canceled.

DashPass—Pause vs. Cancel

In case you‘re unable to use your DashPass due to reasons such as travel or illness, you can suspend your subscription temporarily instead of canceling it. That way, if you decide to come back, you don’t have to go through the billing process again.

You should follow the steps below to pause your DashPass:

  1. Open the DoorDash app or go to the official website.
  2. Click on your profile icon.
  3. Select Manage DashPass.
  4. Select the Pause DashPass option.
  5. Confirm your choice in the pop-up by clicking on Pause DashPass.

What To Do if You Can’t Cancel DashPass

If you run into issues during the cancellation process or you can’t access your account and want to learn how to cancel DashPass without logging in, it’s best to get in touch with the company’s customer support. You can do so via the Chat with Us option in the app or by calling 855-431-0459.

A few users have claimed that they had a hard time canceling their DashPass subscription and had to keep paying for the service for longer than they’d like. It’s unclear what caused these issues and how they were resolved.

Unfortunately, complicated subscription cancellation processes have become frequent across many industries. While errors can happen even to well-intentioned companies, some deliberately make it difficult for you to unsubscribe in order to prolong your payments. These companies use various tactics, such as requiring you to fill out lengthy surveys and employing manipulative design and language. If you’re not careful, you may end up missing a step and having to pay for another month’s subscription. That’s where virtual cards pose a valuable solution.

When signing up for a subscription service, be it an everyday necessity like DashPass and  Walmart or an entertainment service like Paramount Plus, HBO Max, and Audible, you should consider using virtual cards

Virtual cards mask your real financial information at checkout, protecting your transactions from unauthorized access. Some virtual card providers, such as Privacy, also allow you to prevent unwanted charges, giving you peace of mind while you’re going through a complicated cancellation process.

Privacy Virtual Cards—Your Safest Bet Against Hackers and Sneaky Merchants

You can use a Privacy Virtual Card to make payments so potential hackers who breach the merchant’s servers can’t access your actual financial information and make unauthorized transactions. With advanced card controls, a Privacy Card can also help you protect your funds from merchants and subscription services who may attempt to charge you without prior approval.

Privacy lets you generate two types of virtual cards: Single-Use and Merchant-Locked Cards. Check out the details in the following table:

Type of Virtual Card
Single-Use Card
Merchant-Locked Card
How It Works
It closes shortly after you complete the first transaction.
It locks to the first merchant you transact with.
What It’s Ideal For
Merchants you haven’t bought from before and whose credibility you’re unsure of
Merchants you shop from regularly and subscription services

You can pause and close your Merchant-Locked Cards without impacting the funding source. This feature is particularly useful for subscription cancellation—it allows you to prevent unwarranted charges while you’re going through the company’s cancellation process. You can also set spending limits on your Merchant-Locked Cards to prevent any unapproved charges from sneaky merchants and subscription services.

Privacy will block all exceeding charges and those made to the cards you paused or closed.
